Gomez and Montoya season’s House Guest Artists
Active, the jean line with many shades of denim. De Ver Azul, the collaboration with Juan Manuel Gomez. Denham the jeanmaker’s spring-summer collection is a real surprise for denim connoisseurs where premium denim is everywhere with a full range of styles for men and women across both tops and bottom categories.
We must give a special mention to De Ver Azul collaboration, but before it, let’s take one step beyond and tell something more about Juan Manuel Gomez. Together with his wife, Laura Montoya, the Columbian painter, pioneer in a new approach to the tradition of painting on canvas, created a new painterly process and expressive visual language that eschews conventional oil or acrylic pigments and traditional bristle brushes. Their unique use of indigo as a color-source and work into canvases using the tool of a “jeanmaker”, was a real source of inspiration for Denham’s design team that based the entire SS16 collection on South American indigo, making Gomez and Montoya the season’s House Guest Artists. Their artwork stands out on two t-shirts designs that might have been the movie-poster for Denham’s S16 Theme: The Devil’s Blue.
