Piero Turk presents his latest book
We all love denim but certainly our passion for the material can be compared to Piero Turk’s expertise. Yes, because the Italian designer has been in the denim industry for decades. He is a man behind the scenes, Turk has worked with some of the most important brands including Edwin, Lee, Replay and AG (Adriano Goldschmied) providing his wealth of knowledge and passion as both a designer and manufacturing consultant. He’s also the co-founder from the new brand Manic Monkey Jeans which he runs together with Rob Dunk.
In 2012, Turk released his first self-published book “Details”, a visual exploration of his favourite and most inspirational denim details from his personal archive. Shortly after, Piero started sharing his personal and huge denim collection, and his experiences through his blog: “Details – A life with denim”.
This year, Turk takes the best from the blog and synthesises it into a cohesive book, under the same title, with over 300 lavish images of vintage workwear ‘details’ to inspire designers and denim heads alike.
“There are many publications dedicated to the history of jeans, but only a few focus on singular details.” Explains Piero Turk. “I think that a few denim manufacturers are starting to concentrate on a new research field, which is the employment of man-made fibers of natural origins like Tencel and Modal that, when used for jeanswear, can provide the same authentic look of jeans and can stand similar hard washes and aggressive treatments as cotton ones, while remaining super soft to the touch, stretchy and highly comfortable. This is the only area in which I think not much has been done yet.”
The book is also on sale on Etsy: check it out and get yourself a copy from the man who’s really into details.
