From Japanese carps to European denim world
According to Japanese and Chinese ancient legends, the koi fish represents good luck, prosperity, love and friendship. Different is the story, different is the symbol of the koi fish. The oldest one say when Confucius was born a son in 533 B.C., King Shoko of Ro presented to him a Magoi, a European black carp, as a gift. According to this legend, all modern day koi, and their bright colors, are from the Magoi given to Confucius by the king.
Today, we can count over 100 different color types of koi fish, but there is a special one in denim shades. It is the K.O.I. Kings Of Indigo.
When the tradition of American making jeans meets the Japanese eye for detail and quality, K.O.I. Kings Of Indigo comes out. Everything started from an idea of Tony Tonnaer (we interviewed him) that after more than 20 years in fashion industry, in between 2010 and 2011 founded the new brand focused on denim world with a particular attention to recycled fabrics.
In few years Tony Tonnaer launched the new fashion project both in Asia (with the stores in Singapore and Thailand), Canada, South Africa, and Europe reaching Austria, Belgium, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and The Netherlands, of course, real denim country and place of origin of the brand.
The turning point was the Bread & Butter in Berlin in 2011.
First of all, K.O.I. means classics that customers can wear in every season, year after year. Jeans are a real personal garment because they have the tendency to get better with time, according to the wash that shows the customs of the client: they reflect our personal behaviors and history. And K.O.I. fits are wearable season after season, with the collections for men and women. New lines and evergreen like James, John, Clovis and Galan – the menswear (from skinny to slim, from straight to regular), and Sonia, Juno, Christina and Dido – the womenswear (from skinny to super slim, from high slim to regular slim): to everyone his/her model and fit.
Jeans but also tops and jackets, socks, and accessories, all in the name of denim. Like the baby collection or the special selection “Kings of Laundry”, with a further focus on innovation in making, finish and wash.
Cherry on top the quality of the materials used: the very best organic and recycled fabrics coming from Italy and Japan. A real journey around the world, geographically speaking.
